Get to Know Jaala

Jaala McCall is a multidisciplinary aspiring artist from Fort Mill, South Carolina. Jaala has trained extensively in many style of dance as well as danced competitively in her early training years. Along with dance, Jaala has also been involved in other performing art forms including acting, piano, and musical theater. As her passion for dance grew, she began training at Charlotte Ballet shortly before her professional training took flight at The University of North Carolina School of the Arts. While at UNCSA, Jaala has had the opportunity to perform works by Robert Battle, José Limón, Jamie Lee Scott, Trisha Brown, Keith Lee, Yoshito Sakuraba, Grady Bowman, Juel D. Lane and more. Post graduation, Jaala has had the opportunity to work with Grace Whitworth, as well as choreographed for multiple students in the Charlotte, NC area. Jaala has always been motivated by her passion for social justice and human rights. Since graduating from UNCSA in May of 2022, Jaala continues to be an advocate in the dance world in both her choreography and performance work.

THE COME UP…

 

After years of competitively dancing as a youth, Jaala began her formal dance training at Eddie Mabry Talent in 2015, where she performed at the American Music Guild with performer Gloria Gaynor. She also had the opportunity to work and take class with notable dancer and choreographer, Debbie Allen. Jaala continued her training at Jolie South Dance Academy in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she took weekly ballet classes from Charlotte Ballet company member, James Kopecky. Jaala furthered her training and spent a summer in 2017 at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, where she furthered her training in Horton and Latin Jazz techniques. In 2017, Jaala began her training with the Charlotte Ballet Academy, before being accepted into the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in 2018.
